Despite years of uncertainty, she never gave up hope of finding her father.
“There were times when I thought I had to accept life without ever knowing my father,” she said. “But I kept praying and hoping that one day we would meet.”
According to Sarah, her search took a dramatic turn after she posted a video on TikTok that quickly spread across social media. Somalis from around the world began sharing the video, recognizing similarities in her appearance and offering possible leads.
“I had no idea how connected the Somali community is,” she said. “People kept sending me my father’s name. They told me, ‘We recognized your face, your smile, and your nose. We didn’t even need DNA.'”
Their collective efforts eventually led Sarah to her father, ending a search that had lasted nearly five decades.
She described their first meeting as one of the most emotional moments of her life.
“So many things about me finally made sense after I met him and learned his story,” she said. “He is a kind man and is regarded as a hero. I’m honored to know him and to become part of his history.”
Sarah said she has now begun learning the Somali language and embracing Somali culture as she reconnects with her roots.
“I am proud to be Somali,” she said. “I found my people, my community, and a place where I belong. I will never hide where I come from.”
She also expressed her hope of visiting Somalia in the future to meet more relatives and experience the country of her ancestry.
