In a speech delivered during Friday prayers at the presidential mosque, Somalia’s President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud launched a scathing critique against Jubbaland leader Ahmed Madobe. The president accused Madobe of perceiving the federal government as a greater adversary than Al-Shabaab, asserting that the Jubbaland leader is not genuinely committed to combating the militant group.
President Mohamud strongly condemned Madobe’s prolonged leadership, highlighting that it is unacceptable for one individual to govern a region for 18 years. He emphasized the federal government’s desire for a unified electoral process across Somalia, contrasting it with what he described as “Ahmed Madobe’s flawed plans.”
The president further accused Madobe of opposing the federal government’s recent military offensives against Al-Shabaab in central Somalia, where local communities were mobilized to reclaim their territories. He framed this resistance as a failure to prioritize national security and a setback to the broader fight against Al-Shabaab.
This public criticism reflects growing tensions between Somalia’s federal government and the Jubbaland administration, as the country grapples with internal political divisions and ongoing efforts to defeat Al-Shabaab.
