The Puntland Defence Force has been carrying out an extensive operation to eliminate ISIS militants hiding in the Calmiskaad Mountains of Bari region. The mission, focused on securing the area, has involved sustained ground operations by the Puntland Defence Force, supported by aerial strikes from international allies, including the United States and the United Arab Emirates.
On February 1, 2025, U.S. Africa Command (AFRICOM) conducted targeted airstrikes against ISIS positions. According to Puntland authorities, the latest strike successfully eliminated senior ISIS operatives. The Puntland Defence Force had already made significant progress in the initial phase of the operation, and the second phase is now underway with the goal of fully eradicating the militant presence in the region.
The Puntland government has reiterated its commitment to ensuring that ISIS no longer operates in the area and has expressed appreciation to its international partners for their ongoing support in the fight against terrorism.
