The Somali Government has successfully facilitated the return of young Somali migrants who survived a tragic human smuggling incident off the coast of Madagascar. The survivors arrived today at Aden Adde International Airport in Mogadishu, where they were joyfully reunited with their families.
Families and loved ones, gathered at the airport, expressed immense relief and gratitude as they welcomed the survivors home. Many praised the Somali government’s decisive role in coordinating their return and ensuring their safety.
The tragedy, which occurred last month, claimed the lives of over 22 Somali migrants when boats carrying them capsized in the Indian Ocean near Madagascar. A total of 48 survivors were rescued and have now been repatriated to Somalia.
The government has reiterated its commitment to safeguarding its citizens and combating the dangers associated with human smuggling, while also emphasizing the importance of addressing the root causes that drive such perilous journeys.
