The Federal Government of Somalia has grounded all domestic passenger flights departing from Mogadishu to regional states this morning. This decision comes after airline companies refused to transport military personnel to Raaskambooni, citing security concerns at the airport. Hundreds of passengers remain stranded at Aden Adde International Airport in Mogadishu.
The government’s response follows an ongoing standoff with airlines, which have expressed fears of potential threats to their aircraft in Raaskambooni. To pressure the airlines, the Somali government has banned all domestic flights to southern regions until further notice.
Jubaland authorities recently prohibited flights from landing in Raaskambooni, also citing security concerns. However, this move has been rejected by the Somali Federal Government, escalating tensions between the two sides.
As of now, no flights have departed Mogadishu for southern Somalia. Only two flights have been allowed to travel to Puntland, one of which was transporting a deceased person. The situation remains unresolved, with passengers and airlines caught in the crossfire of this security and political standoff.
