Former President of Somalia, Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo, issued a statement regarding the fighting that took place today in the Raaskambooni region, which involved Somali forces fighting against each other. Farmaajo stated that the conflict highlights the difficult situation the country is facing and the damage to Somalia’s state-building process.
The statement pointed out that the fighting is driven by terrorism, which continues to harm the Somali people, and that Somali forces require additional support to free the country. Farmaajo also addressed the significant challenges facing the Somali National Army, noting that poor leadership and unplanned battles have weakened their capabilities.
The former president warned that unlawful constitutional amendments and disregard for the Constitution could lead to civil wars that would further hinder the rebuilding of Somalia’s state. He urged leaders, especially President Hassan Sheikh, to return to the constitutional path and avoid unfinished decisions that undermine the unity and cohesion of the Somali people.
Finally, Farmaajo called on all sectors of society, including religious leaders, intellectuals, and political leaders, to stand for the protection of the Constitution, the strengthening of peace and stability, and to work together to overcome the challenges facing the nation. These challenges include weakening the military, disregard for the Constitution, corruption, and political instability.
